Book: Giraffe in a Jam is a story about Mandy and James who are on a holiday in South Africa. They and their friend Levina are watching giraffes when Mandy spots one in trouble. The giraffe is drinking from a waterhole and has its legs splayed. The front legs are stuck in mud. If the giraffe can't get back on her feet, she will become dinner for lions. Levina tells Mandy that they must let the nature take its course, but Mandy wants to help the female giraffe. Can Mandy persuade Levina to save the giraffe and her calf?

SUMMARY 3

Chapther 8-10: The next day Mandy hurries to Lucky and Chance. The big giraffe's front legs are already better. The two giraffes have eaten all the Acacia branches, so Mandy, James and Lindiwe collect more. When just Mandy and Levina are in the pen, Lucky goes to Mandy and lets her touch him. When Mandy is on her way back to the base, she sees James in a bush. He's been bitten by a snake! Mandy gets help, and when the doctor comes, she tells the kids that it wasn't a poisonous snake.
The day after James was bitten by the snake, they release the two giraffes in the reservation. They have a little trouble getting Lucky into the lorry. After a while Mandy manages to coax Lucky inside. Then they drive for 15 minutes before they release the animals. Lucky and Chance run towards a herd of giraffes.

SUMMARY 2

Chapter 4-7: Levina decides to help the two giraffes after all. Mandy becomes very happy! Levina and Sipho discusses how to rescue the big giraffe. Sipho needs assistance, so he calls Anton for help. Anton comes with three people to help the giraffe. They plan to dig around the giraffe's front legs and pull her out with rope and a truck. After a while they get the giraffe out of the muddy water. They drive both of the giraffes back to the base and set them free in a pen. They give the big giraffe the name Chance and the calf the name Lucky. Mandy, James and Lindiwe feed the two giraffes with acacia branches. Mandy's mother and father examine Chance. The giraffe isn't very injured.

SUMMARY 1

Chapter 1-3: Mandy and James are on a driving trip with Levina, who is a friend of Mandy's parents. Mandy loves to look at the giraffes. She doesn't like that lions have them on their menu.
Next morning Mandy, James, Levina and two friends, Lindiwe and her father Sipho, are looking for giraffes. Near a muddy waterhole a giraffe has its front feet stuck in the mud. Mandy wants to help her, but Levina tells her that it's nature. After a while the giraffe's calf turns up. Mandy is afraid that the lions will kill both of them.

What I like: Not too many difficult words. The story was not too long and not too short. The book was quite exciting.
What I don't like: The book was a bit childish.
